April is Autism Awareness Month
What do you know about autism?
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is the fastest growing developmental disability in Oregon. People with autism communicate and interact with others differently.
Autistic behaviors include:
- Delayed language learning
- Trouble making eye contact
- Difficulty holding a conversation
- Problems reasoning and planning
- Narrow and intense interests
- Poor motor skills
- Sensory sensitivities
Those with autism may have only a few of these behaviors. They also may have many and even more. Signs usually show up in early childhood.
