October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Even if you feel like you’re doing everything you can to be healthy, there’s still a chance you could get cancer. The good news is that many types of cancer are highly treatable if they’re identified early.
Breast cancer, the most common cancer for women, doesn’t always cause symptoms, especially early on. But regular exams can find signs of the disease even before symptoms appear. That’s why getting screened regularly is so important.
Starting in their 40s, women should get checked every one or two years. Based on their health history, some women may be at a higher risk and need to start sooner. When breast cancer is identified early through a mammogram or other noninvasive screening, a woman’s chance of survival is more than 98 percent. Talk to your doctor about the exams you need and when you should begin.
